Spring Renewal: Lightening Our Energy After Winter

What a Winter! 😩

There has been so much happening that has nudged us (okay, pushed!) to process some intense transitions and change, along with all kinds of grief.

But, I take a breath.

It’s okay.

Because essentially, we are always “okay,” right?

It can be easy to lose sight of this.

Especially living in the times we’re in, but also when we looked up at the bare Winter trees, it was all so dark, gloomy and cold … but then we remember, we have our beloved cats, who love us and who we love!

I remember hearing once that...

“Happiness is having someone to love, someone that loves us and something to look forward to.”

Love is all around.

And now that Spring is here, I definitely feel it!

In fact, Spring felt like it was starting to come on a bit early, as I’d pass a daffodil making an appearance in February. Then I’d see a lone tulip blooming in plain dirt and I’d be like, “Wait! I’m not ready yet! I still have to shake Winter off!”

As a Highly Sensitive Person, you’re likely feeling the shift in the season too, and readying yourself to open the windows, let that fresh air in, and begin again. And if you’re feeling it, your cat is feeling it too. You might notice your cat having more energy and curiosity. I’ve definitely noticed this with Bear, our cat, as we’ve amped up his play routine.

After the heaviness of winter, it’s so natural for all of us to crave a little more lightness. Physically, emotionally, energetically. And not in a forceful, “start over/clean slate” kind of way but more in a gentle, “ok, now we’re just feeling naturally ready to get ready” kind of way.

And no season does this better than Spring. It’s my favorite season (next to Fall) with all its gorgeous delicate flowers, pink blooming trees and sweetly aromatic breeze.

Spring has such a beautiful spirit about her.

Spring’s energy invites us to release and shed the burdens we’ve been living under, and to gently come back to ourselves.

As Spring emerges, I think a lot of us naturally and instinctively start to change our behaviors.

And so, don’t think of these next five things as “things to do.”

This is just me sharing what I’ve found helpful as my body and energy relates to Spring.

Here they are.

Five Ways To Rejuvenate Your Energy, From Winter to Spring

  1. Start the Day a Little Earlier - Waking up even 15-30 minutes earlier can feel like giving yourself a small exhale before the day begins. I wasn’t always an early riser but when I discovered it out of necessity, I felt like I stumbled upon magic! Depending on what early looks like for you, it’s usually still dark for me and that quiet space, when most are still sleeping is truly a magical place. Even Bear gets excited by an early morning! And if your cat joins you during this time, you might notice that they feel the magic too, soften, and enjoy the stillness too. Instead of the quick wake up and moving straight to doing, you get to arrive to your day and your cat will feel it too.

  2. Hydrate Your Body - One of the simplest ways to support your body is often the most overlooked - water. And adding half of a fresh lemon to it makes your water a living water which means more nutrients and alkalinity. And while your cat may not be sipping lemon water with you, they do feel the shift when your body is more supported. Sometimes what we label as “low energy” is simply the body asking for a little more care and when your energy lifts, even slightly, your cat feels it.

  3. Eat Light, Living Foods Before Noon - Spring naturally pulls us toward foods that feel lighter, fresher, more alive. This can mean fresh fruit, green smoothies, light salads, simple, clean, water-rich meals. One way you can do this is just eating raw, light foods til noon. It’s also a nice mini cleanse you can do daily to give your digestive system a break, which can also boost your immune system. As your body starts to feel lighter you might find yourself more available, more playful, with more capacity to handle energies. Your cat will notice too and respond to that renewed openness with their own invitations to connect - like a little mousie dropped at your feet followed by a zoomie burst!

  4. Clear Emotional Space - When we think of spring cleaning and clearing, it’s easy to think of our physical space but what about our emotional space? There’s something really supportive about creating space inside, too. Journaling can be a simple way to release what’s been sitting beneath the surface. Julia Cameron, author of “The Artist’s Way” shares a journaling technique called Morning Pages. Every morning, write for 3 pages continuously, train of thought writing, write whatever comes to mind. That’s it! You’ll be surprised at how clearing this can be. Shaking, dancing can also be another way of releasing what’s inside and clearing emotional space because what we carry emotionally is often felt by our cats. As you clear a little emotional space, you may notice you’re calmer, more settled, more at ease and in turn, so are your cats.

  5. Support Your Energy with Flower Essences - Sometimes you might need a little extra support, even when you’re doing all the things, you can still feel a heaviness that lingers. This is exactly when I call on energetic support because it’s gentle, yet so effective especially for us Highly Sensitive People. Our Revive Flower Essence Blend was created for moments like this - when you're ready to feel lighter, but something still feels a bit stuck. The combination of flower essences in Revive help to loosen blocks to pave the way to rejuvenation and renewal. As your emotional energy begins to shift and soften, your cat often benefits right alongside you.

Spring reminds us that renewal is always possible.

Even after periods of rest, stress, or stagnation, life naturally moves back toward growth and vitality.

By caring for your nervous system through mindful routines, grounding practices, and supportive plant remedies, you can align with the season’s natural energy of renewal.

May this Spring be a beautiful time to refresh your mind, nourish your body, and gently revive your spirit.

Because when your nervous system and energy body feels safer, calmer, more open...your home does too, which includes your cat!
