...don't get a cancer diagnosis. 

Hi, this is Toast here (Siena's partner, and yes, my name is Toast, like bread! 🍞 pronouns: she/her). Odds are that I packed your items 😊 and that you saw my handwriting ✍🏼 on a card that I put in your order, if you've ordered from us.

Until November 2025, that is.

In early November, I was in heavy recovery from surgeries, and in no shape to pack orders. Because: not long before that, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

As you might imagine, Siena and I re-prioritized our tasks and appointments in a radical way upon learning the news.

I'm recovering well, learning a lot in many arenas, including options for future treatment.

We know this is personal news....

But we wanted to let you know (without being 😬 TMI) because this is, after all, a very personal and heart-based business. 

And...

We dream of and works towards a society 🌍 where our full humanity is valued appropriately in all aspects of life...including public, civic life...including, too, in business.

Cheers to that world, which we invite you into...

And here is an update of sorts, an excerpt from a personal letter I wrote that we mailed to friends and family in the last days of 2025.

Years ago, I wrote a creed for myself, part of which goes “Compassion is the mark of human nobility.” What this experience has proven to me is that there are indeed noble people in our very own lives.

 

We are in awe and in gratitude for this, and for you being part of our reality. You are one of the ones holding all of us, all of society, together. In our current era, it is the common person - those of us who hold no title, no official position - keeping integrity and decency alive in the human heart.

 

You’ve been part of something larger than yourself, that has shown up in our little corner of the world: a shining reminder that people’s hearts to pitch in are the true healing.

 

Thank you for your deep humanity.
